The Christmas season promises joy, yet many feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsettled. The Bible offers a surprising source of peace in Isaiah 9:6, where Jesus is called the “Mighty God.” This blog explores how His strength brings real peace with God, peace within ourselves, and peace in a troubled world.

For many people, Christmas brings joy.
For others, it brings pressure, loneliness, or a reminder that life is not what they hoped it would be.

So here’s a question many ask this time of year:  “Is real peace even possible at Christmas?”

The Bible’s answer is yes, but not because life suddenly becomes simple. In fact, the very first Christmas promise was spoken into fear and darkness.  Centuries before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah described people who were “walking in darkness” (Isaiah 9:2).

Into that world, God gave a promise:  “For unto us a Child is born… and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Notice that peace comes from Someone with power. Peace requires strength behind it — the strength of the Mighty God.

Here’s what that means for us today.

1. Peace begins with God

Real peace doesn’t start with calmer circumstances; it begins with a restored relationship.

The Bible says our deepest unrest comes from being separated from God. Jesus came to fix that — not just by teaching us or inspiring us, but by reconciling us to God through His death and resurrection.

Because of that: “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)

Before we try to quiet our emotions, God offers peace at the deepest level — peace with Himself.

2. Peace continues within us

Even after we make peace with God, we still face anxiety, sorrow, weakness, and stress. Christmas doesn’t erase those struggles.

But the Mighty God meets us in them.

One writer tells of an elderly woman who had electricity installed in her home. She used it only long enough to light her oil lamps each night — then turned it off again to conserve power. She had a constant power source but lived mostly without it.

Many of us treat God’s peace the same way. We turn to Him only in crisis, then return to carrying everything ourselves.

But Christ’s power is not a momentary boost. It is a steady, sustaining peace available every day:

When your strength ends, His begins.
When your patience breaks, His remains.
When your hope falters, His stands firm.

Peace within grows as we learn to rely on the Mighty God who walks with us.

3. Peace spreads outward

When Christ’s peace settles into our hearts, it begins shaping the way we relate to others:

  • it softens conflict

  • strengthens families

  • builds unity

  • gives us hope in uncertain times

The world is hungry for this kind of peace — real peace that holds steady even when life does not.

And Scripture promises that one day, this peace will fill the earth completely when the Prince of Peace returns and makes all things new (Revelation 21:4).

Until then, we wait with hope.

So… can we have peace this Christmas?

YES!  Not because our lives are perfect, but because Christ is the Mighty God and the Prince of Peace.

  • He brings peace with God when we trust Him.

  • He gives peace within as His strength meets our weakness.

  • He grows peace around us as His love shapes our relationships and world.

If you’re looking for peace this Christmas, you’re not alone — and you’re not without hope.

Jesus invites you to come to Him: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

May you experience the peace only Christ can give — deep, steady, and strong.
